Book Report.

Snow drift polar bear // What to make next? // Sisters frolicking.

Since we're getting blasted again today with some very wintery weather here in Boston it only seems appropriate to post more photos of snow because hey, if you can't beat winter, join winter, right?  I took these last week while in Canada as my nieces played atop the snow drifts that cover the fields behind my in-law's home.  The snow drifts were strong enough for their light little bodies to run and jump but when I tried to join them, I sunk right in up to my knees.  Oh, to be young and fifty pounds again!

One of my new year's resolutions for 2013 is to spend more time reading, specifically to read at least ten books this year.  After having Alice the time I had to read was limited due to the demands of a baby and any precious minutes I had to myself were spent catching up on sleep.  Now that Alice is older I have once again found time to read!  And I am happy to report that I am halfway to my goal.  Here is what I've read so far.
  • Wild by Cheryl Strayed - Loved, loved, LOVED this book.  So inspiring.  And I loved the beautiful way she wrote about her love for her mother.
  • This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz - His style of writing made this book very interesting.  I plan to read this author's Pulitzer Prize-winning book as well.
  • Behind The Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo.  Also loved, loved, LOVED this book.  Talk about putting your own life and your own problems into perspective.  My favorite book of the year so far.
  • Drinking & Tweeting by Brandi Glanville.  After that very heavy book about the slums of Mumbai I needed a mindless read.  And this did the trick!  She talks sometimes a little too honestly about every aspect of her life from her messy divorce to slamming his new wife to her vaginal rejuvenation surgery (yes, she went there).  I didn't come away from this book any smarter, but I was entertained for the afternoon it took me to read it.
  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.  When I started this book I couldn't put it down!  Total page-turner.  But I won't say much else as I don't want to spoil it for you.
And now I'm reading The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick.  Since it was made into a movie (which I hear is awesome!), I wanted to read the book before watching it.  But I am having a bit of a hard time picturing Bradley Cooper playing a character that isn't a total asshole!

Do you have any recommendations to add to my must-read list?  After all these NY Times best-sellers, I'm thinking of going back and revisiting some classics... Catch-22, The Great Gatsby... and those Fifty Shades books, of course!

  3. I finished a few weeks ago "The New York Regional Halloween Dance" by Elna Baker. About a single Mormon girl and her experiences growing up mormon, being a virgin, being different, loosing weight, etc. It was a fun read. xoxo
