Thirty-Four.

Mastering the Lolla Cup. Jan '13.

My birthday totally snuck up on me this year.  Like we just celebrated the new year and then I blinked and it was January 28th.  Yep.  Today is my 34th birthday.  Go shorty...

Early last week I was talking to a friend at CrossFit and she asked what day of the week my birthday was on and I was like, It's either Monday or Tuesday.  I didn't know!  Granted, it was 5 o'clock in the morning but still.  Every year before this one, like most people, I have excitedly anticipated my birthday.  But this year the build-up to the day I was born totally slipped by me.  But here it is!  I am officially another year older.

Despite being born in one of the coldest months of the year, I've made it a tradition for the last decade or so to do a run all by myself on my birthday.  Obviously last year's run was more of a waddle due to my rotund 33-weeks pregnant belly and now that Alice is here, it is a bit tough to get out for a solo run during the week unless I go well before dawn.  So this year, I did my celebratory run the day before my birthday.  Yesterday I laced up my shoes, put on an extra long-sleeve, popped in my ear buds and headed out the door.  I logged 7 miles yesterday.  And as my feet struck the pavement to the beats of Rihanna (don't judge) and my lungs burned and my legs ached as I pushed myself up and down the hills of Commonwealth Ave I felt so alive!

And I also felt so happy to be turning 34.

           Little feet & Bee jammies.

And one more thing... Do you remember what happened on this day in 1986?  This happened.  I remember sitting in Mrs. Reese's class on my 7th birthday eating cupcakes my mom made for the class as we watched that shuttle take off.  And then I remember my teacher crying and turning off the TV, trying to explain to us what had just happened.  It's weird those little things you remember from when you were a kid.  And then on my mom's birthday on Feb 1st, 2003, this happened!  How crazy that my mom and I both have had space shuttle tragedies on our birthdays.

P.S. Birthday's past... 2009, 2011, 2012,

  1. Happy Birthday, Briana! Wow, I didn't know our special days were so close- I'm Feb 3rd, turning 33 this year, though I just had to count to figure that out. Really? Who forgets how old they are? Oh, well.

And I really love that you take time to run on every birthday. Such a good reminder to take a moment to do something just for you! Hope you have a wonderful day. It's been so great getting to know you over this blogland!

I hope you have a wonderful birthday with your little lady! Maybe it's time for a new mommy daughter birthday tradition! :)
