Tastes like Summer.

Another successful trip to the Brookline Farmer's Market.  I have a feeling it will get better and better as the summer weeks go by.  Speaking of which.... how is it June 23rd already?!?  Sheesh.  Time flies.  We'll be pulling on sweaters and boots again before we know it.  SLOW DOWN, SUMMER!

I spent the afternoon walking the rainy streets of my neighborhood.  I stopped for a frozen yogurt.  I perused a bookstore (I could spend hours in a good bookstore).  I strolled leisurely thru the Farmer's Market.  It was a great day.

I have a question for all of you.  Do you rent or own your home/apartment/condo/loft?  I'm starting to think that 'owning' is a bit of a pain-in-the-ass.  We own a loft in Salt Lake City.... but we're renting in Boston.  Had we not owned property in Salt Lake, the move to the East coast would've been a lot easier.  Sure, there are upsides to owning... but only if you plan on staying in the house for a very long time.  Owning real estate tethers you to a location.  Gone are the days of buying and then, a few years later, selling for a profit.  It's just not a seller's market.  And it won't be for awhile.  Don't get me wrong... I'm obsessed with the loft we own in Salt Lake.  But I'm not obsessed with owning something that is a 5-hour plane ride or a 4-day car trip from where we currently live.  Will we buy a house in Boston?  Who knows.  Will we sell our place in Salt Lake City?  Possibly.  All I know is that if we buy again, be it in Salt Lake or Boston or San Francisco or Napa or Vancouver (hey, I can dream) we will buy with the intent of living there for the rest of our lives.  The great thing about renting?  You are not responsible for leaking roofs/broken water pipes/busted heaters/pest control or other problems that come along with owning a home.  A quick call to the landlord and problem solved!!

Non-Garmin stats:  I cannot tell a lie.  I didn't do an official work out today (although I walked A LOT).  It just wasn't in the cards for me.  I had a tiny touch of a cold yesterday/today plus I ran my ass off at work the past two days so I gave myself the day off.  Back at it tomorrow, though!

  1. I would much rather own a place rather than rent. I feel like renting is just throwing money away, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I draw all of my drawings and animate them myself as well :) I hope you visit again!

  2. Farmers Markets & bookstores = two of my very favorite things!

This summer has been crazy hectic and I've only had one Saturday to get to our market!

I am completely conflicted on the own/rent debate. Right now it would be ideal to own {which I do not} because I want to set up the daycare permanently and keep the children in the same school district.

BUT...I'm renting because our ultimate goal is to own an acreage here and right now we can't afford it and I'm not willing to go in a purchase without being married. :) Call me old-fashioned I suppose. hah

  4. Again, way jealous of your Farmer's Market trips! I need one nearby.. The most we get is local farmers setting up little stands (or selling out of the backs of pick-up trucks) in parking lots. Not bad, but not the same...
We rent the house we live in, and own a house across town! Ironic, huh? Babe bought the house to fix it up and sell for profit, but your words pretty much summed up how thats going.

AND, thank you, oh so very much for following.
    That made my day =)

  5. Honestly, I love renting. So not ready to own anything or commit to a place long enough to buy. I know people say renting is like "throwing money away" but to me it's worth it. When I was in an apartment I loved not worrying about getting the trash out to the curb or shoveling the driveway/walkway. Yeah, I like to rent.

ps your outfit is real cute!
