Weekend.

Watching the rain. // Fragrant lilacs! (thanks, Mom).

The weather was terrible all weekend in Salt Lake City. Cold and rainy all day Saturday and then cold and cloudy all day Sunday.  Fortunately we had a few jobs to do around our loft, making the weather the perfect excuse to stay indoors and get them done.  Lee installed my spice rack so our food pantry is now slightly less disorganized (I still have work there to do). And I organized and then added to my growing pile of get-rid-of's for the minimalism game that I'm playing.

God, it feels good to get rid of stuff.

Because it was so rainy on Saturday, Alice and I spent a lot of time sitting in our living room, playing with toys (setting up a "party", as she likes to call it) and looking out the window at our busy street below. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I'd noticed a drug dealer prowling our neighborhood and it sickens me to say that he is still there despite my best efforts at giving information to the police and the local drug enforcement hotline.

In fact, as the weather has gotten warmer, the drug dealing is getting worse.

Like I've said before, there are things about living in an urban area that are par for the course. Homelessness, increased garbage, graffiti, and even drug dealing. But when the crime is so blatantly obvious that I can see the same guy do three or four drug deals in less than 10 minutes on most days of the week, I wonder what the fuck the police and the drug enforcement agency in this town spend their time doing.

Let me be clear that I have never felt unsafe in my downtown neighborhood.  We live on a busy street with a few hundred other residential lofts and retail shops and offices and cafes and there are always people walking about. And I imagine I'm not the only local who has noticed these low-lifes trying to ruin our lovely little neighborhood.

So the stay-at-home mom-sleuthing and information-gathering and the police dispatch-calling continues. And maybe I'll start bugging the mayor's office with this issue, too.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Workouts: Saturday - Rest day. Sunday - Run! Track workout with Lee. 1-mile warm-up, then 1 x 100, 1 x 200, 1 x 300, 1 x 400, 1 x 300, 1 x 200, 1 x 100. 1-mile cool-down .

Sneak-peek at my new art project. // Rainy day window party. // THE BEST ribs I've ever had. Good job, Lee.

  1. I love the pic of Alice's foot just chillin' on the window sill with all of her pals. :)

  2. I know what you mean about being at home and seeing everything. I always know whats going on around here and I'm sure it will increase with the heat. Of course, I have heard that crime does increase with the temps. I've decided to play the minimalism game with you, but I'm attempting the day 1 = 1, day 2 = 2, etc. I imagine that I will be jumping back down to one per day by the time I reach day 1 though because that will be hard!

  3. I think your black and white banner will look very cool. I'm glad the rain stopped for a few minutes on Sunday, so Alice and I could go on a walk and pick (from the neighborhood church) your lilacs. They do smell wonderful. Lilacs always remind me of my grandmother and mom yards. An old fashioned flower. xo
