My next ultra.

The starlings of Domaine Carneros.

Something changed for me a few weeks back after my very late period arrived and I realized that, after a year of trying, I am still not pregnant (don't worry... this post isn't all about that again). I'd like to think that I haven't been putting my life on hold while waiting to get pregnant but really, I'm pretty sure I have been. For instance, my hesitation to register for races, specifically ultra-marathons, has hinged on the possibility that I'd be pregnant come race day and be unable to run such a significant distance. But after that emotional roller coaster ended, I decided to say Fuck it! and I registered for another ultra-marathon.

Excuse the language.

The race I was really excited about doing again was the 24 Hours of Moab: The Run! but it's a little early in the trail-running season to adequately train and it also happens to fall on the same day as Alice's 2nd birthday and the wedding of a very dear friend. So that one is out. Fortunately the same people who put on that Moab race also do a few others so I was able to find what I think will be an even better race.

The Desert RATS Trail Festival 50K in Fruita, Colorado!

I have no idea what RATS stands for but all I know is that these people put on a great trail race. I have a rough idea of how I plan to train for this 31+ miles but, until I hammer out the details of that plan, you'll just have to stay tuned.

Happy weekend! What are your plans? My dad and step-mom are en route to Utah for the weekend so we'll spend some time with them at my Grandma's. And Lee and I have a date on Saturday night to The Nutcracker! Can't wait.

Weekly workouts: Monday - CrossFit! A loooooong warm-up of lunges and Good Mornings and such, then find a 1-rep max for dead lift = 225 lbs (!!!!!!). Tuesday - CrossFit! 10 sets of 2 push press @ 80% from the ground (95lbs), then 5 rounds for time of: 50 air squats + 20 tricep dips (blue band). Wednesday - Rest day. Thursday - CrossFit! 40 back squats at 40% with a penalty of 1 min wall-sit for every re-rack of the bar (I did 55lbs then went down to just the bar at 35lbs... with ANY weight, my hip flexor pain flares up. Boo!). Friday - Run! 7.8 miles/1:06/1,128 feet elevation gain.
