New Toy Tuesday.

I've wanted a DSLR camera for years.  Ever since my first (film!) photography class during my junior year of high school, I've loved the process of taking photos and manipulating light and creating memories.  I've owned point-and-shoots but have missed the ability to control different elements of the photo-taking process.  So I did some research and compared brands.  And I decided to go with a Nikon D5100.  I've only taken a dozen or so pictures so far (mostly of Big Kitty) but, I have to say... I'm already addicted.  I see a new career in my future (I kid, I kid).

When I told Lee I bought my camera today (he's in Spain on business), he said, "You got a camera.  I'm getting another bike."

I don't think he was kidding, either.

Do you have a DSLR?  Do you have any photo-taking tips for me?  I think I'll take a refresher course on using this thing.  ISO, aperture, F-stop, white balance... all those things I've forgotten over the years!

Garmin stats: 4 miles/39 minutes.  Heart rate kept riiiiiight at 140.  Felt great!

  2. What a great toy! I've been thinking how nice it would be to have a better camera recently as well. It begs the question: do I take more pictures with my crappy camera now to justify getting a nicer one or will I take more pictures once I get a nicer one? Oh the dilemma.

  4. YAY!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is amazing and you will die. It's funny how just taking regular photos are even better just using the camera. And I would so do the same thing as Lee. Everytime Carter goes golfing, I get to go shopping.. :)

Editing your pictures is like the icing on the already yummy cake, it's addicting! And congrats on your news! Now it all makes sense, we totally got a new fun camera when lucy was born :). I can't wait to see more pictures!
