Weekend.

Heard a commotion outside our window Sat AM and found a parade! // Exploring the stream in Sugar House.

I succumbed on Saturday to the temptation of that sour cherry pie, essentially tarnishing my second Whole30. Ugh. But I learned something valuable! Having a piece of pie (or chocolate bar or a beer or ice cream) won't make me feel better when something is getting me down. I was having an emotional day on Saturday and, in a flash, I had a fork in my hand and a bite of pie in my mouth. And as I swallowed that delicious bite, I didn't feel better.

I might've actually felt worse.

Despite my derailment, I am continuing on with these last seven days of whole foods eating. Technically I can't call this time around an official Whole30 but I am okay with that because, honestly, my head and my heart haven't been in it anyway.

Goddamn you, sour cherry pie! (It was really good.)

Our holiday weekend was sweltering and, on the morning of the 4th of July, we loaded Alice in the bike trailer and biked a few miles from downtown to the Sugar House street fair. It was nice to get out of the house and out of our usual routine but the street festival fell flat and the temperature was climbing so we didn't stay long. And later that evening, after Alice had gone to sleep, Lee and I were able to enjoy the fireworks from the comfort of our balcony.

Views from Lambs to Millcreek & back.

After my funk on Saturday, I knew I needed to take Sunday to do something for myself, by myself. So I did what always helps when I'm feeling down. I went for a trail run! Since a high of 98F was in the forecast, I started early for an out-and-back at the Lambs Canyon section of the Great Western Trail. I headed up, up, up to the saddle and enjoyed views of the SL valley and then down I ran into Millcreek Canyon. It was slow-going on the uphill sections and, when I made it back to my car and looked at the elevation profile, I understood why. Over 3,000 feet of elevation gain in 7.6 miles!

I am so sore! And my funk is nowhere to be found.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Workouts: Saturday - Run! 3.5 miles/28:30/324 ft elev gain. Sunday - Trail run! 7.6 miles/2:00/3,027 ft elev gain.

Fireworks! From our balcony and kitchen window.

  1. Glad you had a good run over the weekend and thanks for fixing dinner for us on Sunday. I love the pictures of our beautiful Wasatch Mountains and the trails running through them. Gorgeous. xo
