Red Lover's Ridge. Approximately mile 70 of the W100.
This morning I am taking a few hours to myself to do a road bike ride to the top of Big Mountain pass to volunteer at that monster of a race I attempted to run a few years back, the Wasatch 100-Mile Endurance Run. Because it is an all-day event and because we have a 17-month old who won't appreciate the volunteering process, Lee and I will be working at the race in shifts. And because we only have one car, I manned-up and said I'd ride to the top of Big Mountain first thing Friday morning.
Then last night I thought it'd be a good idea to google the elevation of both Salt Lake City and Big Mountain pass to see, you know, what I'm in for on this ride. And here is what I found out:
Salt Lake City: 4,226 feet. Big Mountain Pass: 7,420 feet. All in less than 24 miles.
Oh boy.
P.S. A look back at the last time I volunteered at this race, when I was 13 weeks pregnant in that dreaded is-she-PG-or-just-fat stage.
Weekly Workouts: Monday - Rest day! Tuesday - SL CrossFit! Warm-up: 500m row, then 3 rounds of 10 snatches, 10 snatch balances, and 10 overhead squats (I used a 15lbs barbell), then 30 minutes every-min-on-the-min of 2 power cleans + 2 front squats + 2 push press (73lbs). Wednesday - So sore from CrossFit so another rest day. Thursday - Run! 5.2 miles/46 minutes. Capitol to City Creek. Friday - Ride to Big Mtn!! 23.6 miles with a ton of climbing.
Hi! Glad to have stumbled upon your blog! I was wondering if you feature guest postings. Thanks and have a great day!
