Weekend: Tough Mudder.

Starting line. Let the madness begin!

We're back from our quick two-and-a-half day trip to the suburbs of Chicago.  Lee and his college buddies successfully completed the 12-mile and 22-obstacle Tough Mudder course without losing limbs or suffering any major injuries.  And they looked like they had a great time, too.  Alice and I enjoyed tromping through the mud ourselves to watch those guys swim, climb, crawl, and jump over mud-and-water covered obstacles.

The Tough Mudder event wasn't exactly family-friendly with ear-splittingly loud music and very few places to sit without getting muddy but I didn't expect much from an event sponsored by Dos Equis.  But Alice was completely entertained the entire time as there was no shortage of things and people for her to gawk at.

College buddies reunited. Go Gators!

Thank god I didn't bring my travel stroller because it would've been totally useless at this event.  As you can imagine, the Tough Mudder course is out in the middle of nowhere on uneven surfaces in muddy fields so to push any sort of wheeled baby-carrying device around would've been virtually impossible.  I saw a few families trudging the race course with their little umbrella strollers and the wheels were caked with 4 inches of mud.  The Maya wrap worked out better than I expected for carrying Alice as it gave my arms a break and allowed me to snap photos (I took almost 300!).  And when we both needed a break from the sling, it doubled as a blanket for us to sit on.

I thought I'd be in for a challenging day wrangling Alice but she totally rallied and did great for the 3+ hours we were there.  She loved toddling around, playing in the dirt, and eating way more goldfish crackers than I'd usually let her eat.  Because bribing kids with snacks totally works!

Would you do a Tough Mudder?  Honestly... it doesn't look appealing to me.  At all.

Weekend Workouts: None!  Although I did carry a 25 lbs kid all over a field in Seneca, IL, on Saturday.  That has to count for something!  (and... as I suspected, I was so sore from Friday's Crossfit workout!)

  1. Now that is some good MUD. Did you bring all his clothes home to wash or throw them out? Glad you weren't wearing white!

Looks like the guys had a great time. xo

  2. That's nuts, but they look like they're having fun! I have that same sling, but stopped using it because W got too heavy (although he's only a couple pounds more than Alice :)

  3. That looks intense, I'm with you, it does not appeal to me at all. Alice looks so cute marching across the field.
