I'll admit. I'm one of those girls that doesn't like to leave the house without at least a bit of make-up on. My make-up routine has gotten significantly simpler since my days as a make-up artist and, on most mornings, I get it done in six minutes or less. With a busy kid at my feet, often tugging at my pant leg, that's all the time I can spare. Here is my six minute make-up routine for daytime:
- First 2 minutes - If I was good and used my Clarisonic the night before, I'll skip the toner, otherwise a few swipes with Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel on a cotton pad does the trick. Then I put on a bit of Ole Henriksen Truth Serum and finally Neutrogena Clear Face sunscreen SPF 55.
- Next 1 minute - I take a dab of the Stila Beauty Balm and dot it under both eyes, forehead and chin and then blend outward. Then I apply a bit of the infamous NARS Illuminator to my cheek bones using a foundation brush.
- Next 2.5 minutes - I brush and fill in my sparse little eyebrows and then I apply a thin layer of a shimmery peach-colored Laura Mercier Cream Eyeshadow to both lids. If my face needs a little more oomph, I apply a thin line of a copper-colored eye liner at the base of my upper lashes (black can be too harsh for a playdate at the park) and then, finally, a good coating of black mascara.
- Last 30 seconds - A quick swipe of Burt's Bees tinted lip balm gives me a hint of color and then I top that with a chapstick with sunscreen.
If you only had 30 seconds to get ready, what is the one thing you'd do before rushing out the door? You might find this a bit strange but... I'd brush and fill in my eyebrows. No question.
i do love your beauty posts. probably b/c i'm clueless and you were once a make-up artist. you are my guru :)
ReplyDeleteYES about sunscreen. i never leave the house without it. i'm as pale as can be and love it that way. just say no to a tan!
Oh man, I am hopeless. I never even understand what toner is supposed to do. I usually just wash my face with water (I know this is not going to serve my aging skin well). After years of sunburns, I actually do wear moisturizer with an SPF every single day. I can really see the damage from those old burns and don't want to get anymore.
ReplyDeleteI do often leave the house without make-up, but if I just a minute to work with I will usually go for my under-eye concealer. Motherhood has given me permanent circles and they aren't pretty!
Thanks for sharing these :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'd also fill in my eyebrows but I'd also apply mascara. {i'm glad to know I'm not the only one with sparse eyebrows!} I love reading beauty regimens and finding out what products other people use. I rarely venture out and buy new make-up, I stick with what I know but I love recommendations!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember that song from the 1990s about wearing sunscreen? 'If I could offer you one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it'. The sunscreen song was kind of our unofficial class song in our final year of high school (along with chumbwamba's 'I get knocked down', but that's a different story). Your sunscreen message reminded me of it. I always wear sunscreen. I'm so fair, I can't go without it. And tanning? Well I burn & go back to white, so there is no point.
ReplyDeleteHere's the youtube link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTJ7AzBIJoI The official song title is Everybody's Free (to wear Sunscreen).
I'm with you on the not leaving the house without make-up. I always use concealer (as Mama Smith said, those circles never go away without somekind of make-up help), tinted moisturiser, eyeshadow & mascara, unless I'm going for an early morning run, then I just use sunscreen.
Sunscreen moisturizer. Lipstick. Mascara. Eyebrows. Thats about it. Glad you are taking care of your skin.
