the Cape of Good Hope.

30th birthday trip. South Africa, January '09.

I remember dreading turning 30 for some reason.  30 just seemed so old.  I also remember wanting to make turning 30 into something special rather than have it turn into some drunken night out at a bar in Santa Monica.  So Lee and I decided to go big for my 30th.  Four years ago we traveled across the globe to South Africa to celebrate the start of another decade.  And then we hiked to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope on my actual birthday.

And as I stood at the southwestern-most tip of the African continent, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans are said to meet, I remember thinking that turning 30 wasn't so bad after all.

  1. It's a gorgeous spot...that Cape Point. From that vantage point nuthin's so bad after all.

...the baboons are pretty aggressive though...lol.

    Love these photos!

  2. You guys have the best adventures, such seasoned travelers! I didn't have any anxiety about turning 30, but I was getting married in a few months and was busy planning so that probably overshadowed any feelings I might have had. I'm thoroughly enjoying my thirties :)

  3. I agree with Lilly- man, are you well-traveled! I have been really nowhere, I realize.

And I'm coming up on 33 in a couple of weeks, so I agree- 30 is not so bad!

  4. That is such a neat way to celebrate a birthday! I am dying to take another big trip. If you have the time, you should do a post [if you haven't already] highlighting your favorite places you've been!

  5. I'm so glad you've got to travel the world. Such great memories and experiences. I remember you telling me about one adventure involving penguins... something about the penguin wanting to "love" your husband. Great pictures. xoxo
