Some thoughts...

Now that's winter! Alberta, Canada. December 2012.

Since I can't seem to string together a coherent blog this morning, here are a few random thoughts instead.
  • Are you jealous of the wild snowstorm my in-laws had in Canada yesterday?  I am.  I'd love to shovel and jump and play and photograph that winter wonderland!  Thanks for the photo, Barb.
  • I'd drink egg nog in my coffee year-round if I could.
  • We're staying put in Boston for awhile.  Trying to be happy about that.
  • A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood.... is totally stuck in my head today.
  • I want this!
  • I've been washing my hair only twice a week as of late and I'm amazed at how much better it looks and feels.  Of course, I am showering more than twice a week, though.
  • Wondering if I'll be able to walk tomorrow after those 100 burpees and 120 kettle bell swings from this morning's CrossFit workout.
  • After that tough workout what better thing to eat than a slice of chocolate whiskey bread from this amazing bakery?!
  • Excited for our first delivery of toys from this company.  Committed to fun!  Not clutter.
  • Alice seems to have not one, not two, but FOUR teeth coming in all at once.  Poor thing.
  • And finally... thinking about this article I read awhile back on how to talk to little girls.
"Teaching girls that their appearance is the first thing you notice tells them
that looks are more important than anything."

Interesting article, don't you think?  While we were in Canada in October, when we met up with my nieces, I made a conscious effort not to immediately compliment them on how they looked or what they were wearing.  Instead, I asked them about their favorite subject in school.  Just like the author says at the end of the article... Here's to changing the world, one little girl at a time.

  1. That snow looks fluffy and perfect... makes me want to go snowboarding! I have never heard of renting toys, what a great idea. And I know Boston isn't your first choice, but there are perks- proximity to both ocean and mountains is my favorite one :)

    1. As a clutter-phobe, I am so excited about the toy rental! I'll definitely be blogging about it.

And living in Boston isn't the problem for me. It's the distance from family and friends. It is tough to make friends here. For me it has been, anyway.

  2. Great picture of the deck covered in snow. I do love winter.

I looked at the web site for "renting" toys. I was skeptical, then read their cleaning and sanitation methods and it sounds like a good way to keep a "new" toy supply, without keeping toys around that Alice doesn't play with anymore.

As for my comment about how beautiful you are. That still stands true. I've always tried to remind you how talented and intelligent you are. I'll have to make that my first statement, when I see you, second, you look great. xoxo Mom
