From the Earth came dinner. August 2012.
One of the many reasons I love coming to my in-laws every summer is spending time in and enjoying the harvest of their beautiful garden. I've always wanted a garden of my own and being here I can live that dream out a little bit.
Pulling weeds. Digging potatoes. Picking peas. Tugging carrots. Slapping mosquitoes. It's a farm life! And I love it so much.
Tonight's dinner came almost entirely from the garden. Although I've never really had my own, I can imagine that's a pretty awesome feeling. Taking something you've grown and feeding your family with it. So poetic. So beautiful. And I'm so glad I got to be a part of that.
If you have a garden, what is your favorite thing to grow? I think I'd enjoy growing tomatoes the most. There isn't anything quite like a tomato fresh from the garden.
Tender of the garden. Hard at work.
Gorgeous garden and pictures. James is the tomato king in this house, but I like growing cabbage and carrots a whole lot... such pretty colors and so easy :) enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I'm a farm girl too. Raised growing our own food, vegetables, fruit, and animals. When you were a toddler, I had a huge garden, where you would "help" me pull weeds, water and mostly play. You really seemed to enjoy being outside and getting your hands in the dirt.
ReplyDeleteI hope in the future, you will have the opportunity to have a small garden to enjoy. Even a few containers for your deck to
plant tomatoes are worth the effort. ENJOY! XO
I'd really love to have a fresh herb garden, but I'm afraid we are more skilled with killing plants than keeping them alive.
