I don't buy it.

(via the NY Times.)

Sorry guys.  I don't really get into Valentine's Day.  I just don't.  I mean, I think it's a great holiday and I support being all lovey-dovey with your main squeeze but I just feel like V-Day is just another marketing scheme by retailers to get you to spend money.  Something about a guy (or girl) feeling obligated to get his lady (or dude) a gift seems disingenuous.  I guess I'm more of the philosophy of showing your love throughout the year with heart-felt gifts or love notes or chocolates or flowers or homemade meals or whatever makes you feel special.  For example I definitely felt special this weekend when I came home to a clean apartment and a delicious dinner cooked by my husband.  For me, it's the little things that make me feel loved.

I do love all the colored paper hearts and Valentine decorations that sprout up in the month of February, though, as it reminds me that spring is just around the corner.  And, of course, I loooove the Valentine's candy... red hots, cinnamon lips, conversation hearts, and all things chocolate!

  1. Aren't most of the holidays marketing schemes nowadays? Secretary's day, World Kindness Day, Data Privacy Day, blah, blah, blah.

But don't mess with Opening Day....

  2. Funny, I saw some guy reading the "Pick Your Cupid" on the plane yesterday.

I'm with you...not a huge fan of V-day. My husband and I just exchange cards and order pizza.
