It's Official.

I am on VACATION as of right now, 7:30 a.m. Lee and I are headed to Edmonton, AB, Canada to see his parents (my in-laws!) and the rest of his family for twelve-whole days. We're also heading to Jasper National Park for some Canadian Rockies skiing at Marmot Basin. I have often told Lee (threatened might be a better word) that I want to get my Canadian citizenship now that I married to one. He has said that I cannot get my Canadian citizenship unless I go to Canada during January and experience a true Canadian winter... not just the measly season we call winter here in Utah. Apparently temps below freezing are the norm up there. Needless to say there won't be any shorts and flip-flops packed in my luggage for this trip.

I'm also SUPER excited because Grace is coming with us on this trip!! Without going into too much detail (because it's her business, not mine), she's not tagging along with us but is going to see someone special that she connected with at our wedding. It's been so long since I've gone on a trip with a girlfriend and I can't think of a better person to have on this trip than Grace. Good times will be had!
Going to Canada in the winter will be a very different experience from my past trips to Lee's parent's house. Normally we're there in the smack dab of summer and smack dab in the middle of all the typical summer activities.... like picking fresh fruit and veggies out of Barb's acre garden or grilling dinner on the outside BBQ while drinking a Smirnoff Ice (Barb's favorite!) or watching the occasional car drive by down the dusty dirt roads or playing with Lee's nieces in the field behind Barb and Paul's house. This time around I anticipate a lot of catching up over coffee at the kitchen table, reading the local Edmonton newspaper, playing indoor games with Lee's nieces, napping (I hope!), and eating Barb's home-cooked goodies (I really hope!). Of course a winter trip to Canada will put a damper on my Spring marathon and Memorial Day 50-miler training but I'm sure Lee will drag me out into the frigid weather and make me run with him.... I think the key will be to layer-layer-layer winter running clothes in an attempt to keep out the elements!
