Keep Jumbo Wild.

The drive to-and-from Jumbo Pass trailhead. Keep Jumbo wild.

Southern British Colombia is gorgeous. Today we took a drive from Panorama 32km up a gravel forest service road to the trailhead for Jumbo Pass which leads to Jumbo Glacier, one of the biggest glaciers in this area. And, unfortunately, it is slated to become a gigantic ski resort with 23 ski lifts over 5,600 hectares within the next few years. Not surprisingly, the building of this year-round ski resort on four glaciers in the thick of grizzly bear country is very controversial between environmentalists and the ski industry. So we went to see the area before it becomes completely ruined.

Obviously you can tell which side of the controversy I fall on.

Read here for more information about the environmental and economic impacts this will have on Southern B.C.

  1. Beautiful pictures. So sad that they would disrupt such beautiful wilderness with a ski resort. xo
