Napa Eats.

Rainbow of produce. Oxbow Farmers' Market.

I am a foodie tourist. Sure, I like to do a bit of sight-seeing when vacationing but mostly I enjoy traveling for the food. Even though we've been to Napa dozens of times and we eat most of our meals at my dad's house, I still love to go out to eat when we're here to some of my favorites and also to check out the new places that have popped up since the last time we were in town. Here are the places we've been to on this trip:

  • Oxbow Public Market: Great spot for breakfast, lunch or both! We've been known to frequent this place daily whenever we come to Napa. My favorites are C Casa for lunch (gourmet tacos!), Kara's for cupcakes, and Cate&Co for amazing gluten-free baked goods and snacks. And since Alice often struggles with her vegetable intake (especially while visiting grandparents!), we always get her freshly squeezed juices or fruit-and-veggie-packed smoothies from Oxbow Produce (although the $6-$8 price-per-drink is a little ridiculous).
  • Angéle Restaurant + Bar: Romantic date spot with delicious food right on Main Street near the Napa River. The outdoor covered patio is also perfect for brunch and lunch. Or a glass of sparkling Rosé!
  • BurgerFi: Fresh and local ingredients and an array of sauces and toppings gives that other California burger place a run their money. They even serve an array of craft beers and Napa wines! Plus their hip, industrial building that overlooks the river tops the usual views of a freeway on ramp or a strip mall that other roadside burger places tend to offer.
  • The Thomas at Fagiani's Restaurant: This beautifully restored brick building with a murderous history now houses a bar on the main level and two floors of dining with views of (you guessed it!) the Napa river. And their prix fixe brunch menu that includes a cocktail, a brunch dish and hot drink (I had a cappuccino) all for $22 can't be beat!
  • City Winery: We are having lunch at this new spot this afternoon! Check back later for my review.

And P.S., Read here about a few of my favorite wineries in Napa.

How about you? Do you prefer to sight-see or eat your way around a city when on vacation?

Running around like she owns the place. Oxbow Public Market.

  1. I miss the food in California. No offense, Colorado, but the produce in California is waaaay better. I don't know why we didn't visit Napa more often when we lived in the Bay Area. Maybe it was because San Francisco was a much shorter drive. But if we do go back, I'm going to have to check out the Oxbow Public Market. And I agree, Kara's Cupcakes rock. I'm a big fan.

I love to eat when I travel. One of my favorite places was Sao Paulo, Brazil. Amazing food and so different from anything I can find in the U.S.
