Because I'm sure you are as sick of hearing about our loft remodel as I am of talking about it, I'm going to spare you the latest drama we've encountered (!!!) to talk about something near and dear to my heart.  COFFEE!  Third only to getting Alice out of her crib and going pee, getting coffee made is a major priority in my morning.  And I like to think we make a pretty good cup thanks to a combination of things that have helped us hone our skills.

Here's what we have in our coffee-making arsenal:
  1. Bodum Chambord French Press
  2. Caffe Ibis coffee beans (I'm loving this roast lately)
  3. Hario Coffee Hand Grinder
  4. Pottery Barn Great White Coupe coffee cup
That little hand grinder has revolutionized the results of our French press coffee.  Rather than turn the beans into dust as they zoom around and around in a blade grinder, the beans fall through the conical burrs of the Hario only once, resulting in a more even grind, a better tasting brew, and less sludge at the bottom of your cup.

And at a fraction of the size and cost of an electric burr grinder, you really should do yourself and your morning cup of coffee a favor and get one.

What is your method for making coffee at home?

And Happy Birthday, Grama Barb!  Alice, Lee & I send you a big hug and kiss on your special day.  XOXO.

Weekly Workouts: Monday - Rest day! Tuesday - CrossFit! Find 1-rep max for split jerks (125lbs), then 3 rounds for time of: 30 kettle bell swings (35lbs) + 30 dips (blue band). Wednesday - Run! 3.8 miles/29 minutes. Thursday - Sort of rest day related to major loft remodel issues. But Alice and I walked at least 4 miles all over the city. Friday - CrossFit! Find a 2-rep max for chest press (110lbs), then 50 chest-to-bar pull-ups (blue + red... I regressed!) + 75 wall balls (14lbs) + 1 mile run = 16:04.  Fastest time of the day so far!

  1. Burr grinders are such a game changer! We received an electric burr grinder by Bodum as a wedding gift - I loooove that thing. It's pretty compact, but is definitely noisy for the 8 seconds it's in use. French press is my go-to method, but I have at least half a dozen gadgets to play with. Siphon is really fun when I make the time for it - you should either come over for coffee some time and we can use it or try it at Caffe D'Bolla! No Brow has a really fun Alpha Dominiche machine too!

  2. You do make a good cup of coffee. I should get our french press out and use it more often. It's small, only 2 cups, I need just a bit more than that for both myself and hubby. I've tried your grinder and it does give you a bit of a work out. xo
