Flipping tires.

My workout equipment.

Much like when we were here in March with snow on the ground, I've had to get a little creative with my workouts while staying with my in-laws.  But luckily my father-in-law has no shortage of heavy things he lets me pick up and carry around for a very CrossFit-like workout.

So earlier in the week I flipped truck tires across the yard for a workout!  And then I did shoulder presses with pieces of steel.  Who knows how much all that stuff weighs.  All that mattered to me is that my muscles were moving and calories were being burned.

I mean, it's imperative that I work out while on vacation here as my mother-in-law is constantly baking! Gooey cinnamon rolls.  Blueberry and raspberry pies.  Freshly baked bread!  Luckily she has a garden overflowing with vegetables, too, or I may just sustain myself on baked goods alone this week.

One more thing... I read an interesting article this morning defending a few things that are often negatively said about CrossFit.  Here is one of my favorite quotes from the article.

"I've found that CrossFit is not for everyone. Just like basketball is not for everyone. Just like skiing is not for everyone. Just like black licorice is the worst candy ever created."

I am totally with him on that black licorice part.  Ew.

Do you like to change up your workouts while on vacation?  Or take a break altogether?  Since I get sort of mental when I don't work out on a regular basis, I try not to take more than three days off in a row without some sort of heart-pumping exercise.  Without it, I'm a moody mess!

Weekly Workouts: Monday - Rest day. Tuesday - Truck tire flipping! 60 times across the yard + shoulder presses + 30 walking lunges + 5 minutes of running. Wednesday - CrossFit Edmonton! 3 rounds of max effort pull-ups and push-ups (28 and 33 total), then 3 rounds of max effort leg lift/pike sit + shoulder press hold - 50lbs (65 seconds and 3:05 total), then 4 rounds of suicide run and power clean to push press (40lbs). Thursday - Run! 4 miles. Tomorrow - Rest day!

  1. I love these photos! You are such a strong girl, lifting tires and heavy metal. Reminds me of when Chelsey was on her farmstay in Italy - she was doing WODs in the barn with whatever random junk she could find. Now that's REAL "CrossFit" if you ask me. (And your Edmonton WOD sounded pretty fun, too.)

Today was mystery WOD day - you were missed! Enjoy the rest of your vaca (and the baked goods).
