Running in the cold. Canada, Oct 2012.
The day has totally gotten away from me. It's after noon, already?! Wow. But thankfully it is noon on Friday and the weekend is upon us. I just feel extra exhausted today. The last few weeks I've really put forth an effort at getting back in shape and, after waking up at 4:30AM on most days to go to CrossFit, by Friday those early wake-ups have totally caught up to me. So, instead of blogging during Alice's nap, I napped. And she graced me with a glorious hour-and-forty-five-minutes of sleep.
CrossFit has already changed my body. In the six short weeks I have been going, I've lost three pounds and I have definition in places that haven't seen it in some time. I can do push-ups on my toes! I can do ten pull-ups with the help of a green band! My once weak post-pregnancy abs are showing definition again! It feels so good to be getting stronger. It feels amazingly good. I am still running but only 10 to 15 miles a week. Right now, doing CrossFit just feels better. So I am going with that.
This ad aired awhile back and was somewhat controversial. Maybe they could've conveyed the message differently but just look at how strong those women are. So amazing!
Have I inspired you to try CrossFit? I know it isn't for everyone. And, I'll admit, it was super intimidating when I first joined. All those weights and box-jumps and pull-up bars and such scared the bejeezus out of me! But, slowly, I am gaining not only muscle, but confidence, too.
CrossFit Workout of the Day (WOD) Friday: 5 sets of 5 squats with weight (I did 55lbs). Then 15 minutes of 'as many rounds as you can' of toes-to-bar (ha! I did hanging leg lifts), a 400 meter run, and 15 wall balls (throwing a 10lbs ball 15 feet in the air from a squat position). And if you dropped that 10lbs ball?! 5 jump squats as a penalty. I did 3 and a half rounds. And about 20 penalty jump squats. Not sure I'll be able to walk tomorrow. But I love that.
Your post has reminded me that I was supposed to exercise this morning & here I am still in my pjs & it's almost time to take Lulu for swimming. Tomorrow. Do you read the blog sometimes sweet? Danielle & her husband both do crossfit. She posts a fair bit about it on Instagram. It does sound good. I've signed up for the Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation program that starts on 19 Nov. I'm pretty excited to get back into regular exercise, which has fallen by the wayside since we all started getting sick.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this awesome reminder post :)
Oh, i now feel even more guilty for eating Halloween candy and going to Ikea today. Zero exercise! CrossFit is all the rage with so many of my friends, but I think it's a little intense for me. I'm just banking on some snow this winter so that I can go snowboarding :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures of you. Love the sun and shadow combination. Ya got to love a good long nap! Keep up the good work. xoxo
