Me? Stage 5 Clinger?! No way.

Over the last week or so, Alice seems to have entered the clingy baby stage.  A kid who would normally play quietly on her activity mat or sit contently in her rocker now wants to be held.  All the time.  If I set her down to say, go to the bathroom, she starts shrieking like a pterodactyl until I am back in her eye sight or have picked her up.  If I am making dinner or cleaning up the kitchen, I bring her rocker as close as possible so that she can see me and I can entertain her if needed.  And I am lucky if she gives me five minutes.  It makes getting things done around the house a bit difficult!

But she is so cute.  And I love her so much.  So this clingy-ness is fine.  And I know that it, too, will pass.  So when my back hurts or my arms are aching from carrying her all day, I try to remind myself that, someday, she won't want to be held and she won't want to be with me all the time.  So I am cherishing these clingy moments because, someday, I am sure I will miss them.

Was/Is your baby clingy?  I try to wear Alice in the baby carrier as much as possible when she's being clingy but sometimes Momma needs a break!

  1. My 1 year old is a bit clingy at times. She is a MAJOR mama's girl and the older one is a daddy's girl. I found my oldest went through a clingy to me stage and then one day just switched to daddy and I was chopped liver. She still hasn't switched back. So I'm sure your baby will adjust to having you doing things, thought my 1 year old will still follow me everywhere, and I have a friend with a 2 year old who always wants BOTH parents around her 24/7. I sometimes wonder whether attachment parenting is creating a few little clingy monsters along with those happy, well adjusted babies.

  2. My kids were SOOOO clingy. We always had to hold them if we wanted to do anything without crying in the background! I wore them in the baby bjorn all the time! :) Such a doll!

  3. My baby(4 months) is usually content to play by himself for a little while unless he's tired then he'll grab on like a little spider monkey and I have to peel his fingers open one by one because he's got my shirt in a vice grip.

And the pterodactyl noise? Us too. Pterodactyl is one of his nicknames.

  4. I just love her beautiful face! And her cute little bare bottom! I just want to squish her, hold her and give her lots of loves. I agree, you only have a few months before your little one will be running around, being independent and not wanting to be held. So enjoy while you can, even though it's a pain right now. Wish I could be there to hold her and give you a break. Love you and miss you! xoxo
