Stew.

Sunday Fun-day at the Laundro-mat.

I did something really dumb over the weekend.  Two things, actually.  I'm sure that I am not alone on this but do you ever do something really stupid and then you stew on it and think about it obsessively for days and days and days?  Yep.  That's where I am at right now.  Ugh.  Let me tell you what happened.

Before we left for New York on Thursday night, my husband made some coffee for us to take on the road with us.  We decided to change things up and have iced rather than hot coffee so I put the carafe in the fridge while we finished getting ready to leave.  We were all packed up.  Alice was strapped into her car seat.  I grabbed the coffees, put a few ice cubes in and we were off on our weekend adventure.  Fast-forward to arriving home on Saturday night.... and I had left the freezer drawer open.  Like open a few inches.  And everything inside was totally defrosted.  Like at least a hundred dollars or so worth of meat, fish, vegetables, and my delicious turkey meatballs.

All thawed.  All inedible.  All gone.

So that sucked.  We had to clean out everything in the freezer right away before all that rancid stuff re-froze.  Oh.  And all of the ice from the automatic ice maker of course melted everywhere so there was a nice puddle of murky, who-knows-what-is-growing-in-that water that had to be sopped up, too.  Good times.

No big deal.  Our freezer probably needed to be cleaned anyway.  So we resolved that crisis then I put a load of diapers in to get a jump start on the post-vacation laundry that needed to be done.  I tossed the dirty diaper laundry bag in along with the small on-the-go diaper bag, just like I always do.  Near the end of the cycle, I checked on the progress of the wash and noticed the machine had stopped and was flashing an error message.  Hmmmmm.  This had happened before so I shrugged my shoulders and reset the machine.  And then it happened again.  And again.  And again.  So I canceled the load and opened the machine.  Yep.  I had put a gDiaper's disposable diaper in my little on-the-go bag, intending to throw it away later and had totally forgotten about it.  And it had totally dissolved and it totally went through the wash.  Basically making our washing machine totally useless.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*^#.

So guess where I spent my Sunday?  Yep.  The good ol' laundro-mat.  But being back in one of those fine establishments brought me right back to my college days of living in Santa Monica, CA.

So hey.  At least I could reminisce while I stewed over what I had done.

  1. Crap-o-la! That is crazy nasty! So sad all that food was lost.

Do you remember our chest freezer in the basement, it got unplugged? (No one would fess up). We were away for a few days, got home and thought something had died in the house. It was so sickening, we plugged it back in and re-froze everything. Once everything was frozen, no smell (less smell), then threw everything out. It was still a horrid mess.

Hope your washer isn't ruined. Wishing you a much better week ahead. XOXO

  2. Oh no!! That sucks, double time. We have so much washing, I can only imagine the pain of having to go to the laundry mat. Hopefully your machine isn't too far gone.
