Junk Drawer.

I saw this awesome idea in Real Simple for organizing your junk drawer.  Everyone has a junk drawer, right?  You know, the spot where all the random household stuff ends up?  We have one and it was starting to get a little out-of-hand.  With the nesting habit kicking in, I decided to tackle our junk drawer using old cereal boxes that were going to be tossed out recycled anyway.  So easy.  So simple.  And all the different boxes are the perfect size to hold things like pens and rubber bands and twist ties and extra keys and random hardware and anything else you have hanging around in your junk drawer.  Just stick the cereal box in the drawer and draw a line for cutting to get an exact height.  Then cut, put in drawer, put junk in box (no jokes, please), and then tether your cereal junk boxes together with paperclips or bobby pins and voila.... your junk drawer is organized.

I get such a kick out of organizing stuff.  Do you?  Don't get me wrong, I am no neat freak.  But once in a while I'll get a wild hair (or the realization that we have a baby coming!) and I want to organize everything.

  1. My hubby and I just organized our junk drawer too! We used a silverware drawer insert and it worked great :)

  2. A common theme of junk drawers seems to be coins and pens. So here it's even more out of control because we have two forms of currency (USD on the military base, euros off - which are alot of coins)

I bought a little storage nick nack to put it all in, because my husband is sort of, ok alot, packrat-ish.

I love the cereal box idea!
