Fizzy & Tart.

Yesterday in the ER was just one of those days.  Busy and hectic.  Needy and mean patients (yes, people are mean to nurses that are helping them).  Around 4PM I turned to my co-worker and said, "If I could, I would totally go home and pour myself a big glass of red wine or crack open a cold beer after this hellish day."  There is just something about having an adult beverage after an especially horrible day that makes all seem right with the world.  Not an entire wine bottle or multiple beers.  Just one.  Maybe two.  That's it.  And then the hellish day seems to just melt away.

Obviously I am in no condition to be drinking these days.  But I did have a beer.  A ginger beer.  It's fizzy and tart flavor sort of did the trick.  And it gave me heartburn.  But anything seems to give me heartburn these days.

What do you do to unwind after an especially grueling day?  If I didn't run my ass off for 12 hours in the ER, I'd say a quick run or a work out.  Lately, thought, it is a kiss and hug from my husband that seems to make things all better.  It's the little things, really.

  1. I Love ginger beer! That same company, Maine Root, makes the most delicious Blueberry Soda!

Isn't it amazing how something so simple as a bottle of favorite beer can melt away the slush of a rotten day. I think the planets or stars must have been off, because I feel like every other person I speak with had a hellish... or at least off-kilter day yesterday.

Once your little bambina is born you have got to try a Pimm's Cup [better yet a Pimm's Cup from Bar X next time you're in town] :) It's my very favorite cocktail and is made from ginger beer.

*Hope your patients are extra sweet to you next time you work!

  2. Thanks for getting back to me. Right after I hit submit, I thought to myself "I bet it's shellac". I'm glad it works well. Maybe I'll get it sometime. It looks so great!
