Big Mountain Aid Station of the Wasatch 100.
I don't know where all of my time goes lately. At the end of most days, my list of things to do seems to have grown rather than shrunk as with my toddler in tow, it's often one step forward, two steps back when trying to accomplish household chores. So we go to bed with a dirty kitchen. Our laundry basket never entirely empties. And my blogging has become inconsistent. But I really do miss the outlet that writing and photo-editing gives me so I intend to carve out a little more time just for that.
Hopefully Alice gets the memo.
Our weekend started on Friday with our annual volunteering at the Wasatch Front 100-Mile Endurance Run. My parents have been in charge of the aid station at mile 39.4 for almost two decades and, over the years, it has become a family affair with my aunts, uncles and cousins making the trip to Big Mountain to help the 300+ runners toward their goal of finishing this 100-mile beast of a race.
The weather conditions this year were ideal with mild temperatures, a tolerable wind (it can be gale force up there) and no rain. Alice was a trooper and stayed with us for the full 10-hour day at the aid station while we crewed for the runners and their pacers. At one point, she even hiked with Lee up the steep Great Western Trail to cheer on the runners as they came down the ridge and to find the pink flamingos that have become a tradition on the trail every year.
As what usually happens after I volunteer, I am starting to feel the itch to attempt this race again. Just maybe not next year.
On Saturday Alice and I attended a birthday party for her best friend, G, at the S & S Shortline Train Park & Museum (really cool place!) and on Sunday I did a beautiful and much-needed hike to Red Pine Lake with a dear friend (pictures to come later in the week).
I am really going to miss these trail runs/hikes when the snow starts to fall.
How was your weekend?
Weekend Workouts: Saturday - Run! B Street to City Creek. 4.6 miles/38 min/438 ft elev gain. Sunday - Hike to Red Pine! 9.3 miles/3 hours 45 min/2,772 ft elev gain.

Again a GREAT BIG THANK YOU, to you and your husband for volunteering. You both are such good help, with the set up, food preparation, assisting runners, decorating, keeping me organized.... the list goes on and on. We couldn't do this without you and ALL of our volunteers who assist us each year. Looking forward to next year. xoxo
