Weekend.

Candy!! And pistachios for me. // Living room & Big Kitty's power-snooze. // Party prep! // Homemade guacamole and those crack chips from Whole Foods. // Cro-liners from Vosen's! // Grace basking in the glow of her first Bunco by wearing the bedazzled cowboy hat.

I am amazed with how much energy I have since starting my Whole30.  I wouldn't have described myself as a low-energy person before changing the way that I eat but now that I've experienced this new level of energy, I can't imagine going back to my pre-Whole30 energy level now!  I feel like I'm on drugs.

Not that I know what being on drugs feels like.  Obviously.

Seriously, though.  I feel great.  Prior to starting this, on most days of the week, I used to take a quick snooze while Alice napped but I haven't felt the need to do that in over two weeks.  In fact, I'm not even sure I'd be able to take a mid-day nap right now.  And I also feel amazingly upbeat and strangely happy.

Still impatient, though.

On Friday night, it was my turn to host our monthly Bunco gathering.  If you aren't familiar with Bunco, it's basically an excuse to get a bunch of women together for food, drinks, conversation and a few rounds of a dice game.  The role of the hostess is to provide snacks, dinner and dessert for everyone and, when I realized I'd be smack-dab in the middle of my Whole30 for my month to host, I sort of panicked as to what to serve.

But it turned out wonderfully!  I served a salad bar with my favorite shredded chili-chicken, cilantro-lime rice, garlic black beans, cojito cheese and a variety of salsas and sauces.  That way, everyone was able to pile their plates full of whatever they wanted.  And I was able to avoid the stuff I'm currently not eating.

I will say... putting out the bowls of M&Ms and Mini Cadbury Eggs and Sweetart Jellybeans (those things = crack) was a little challenging as the chocolate-y and sweet smells wafted from the bags.  But I abstained!  And I even managed to not lick my cinnamon-sugar-covered fingers after I plated the cro-liners for dessert.  What is a cro-liner, you wonder?  Imagine a cinnamon-sugar donut, a buttery croissant and a jelly-filled berliner all in one.

Yep.  The Whole30 has definitely helped me to find my willpower.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Workouts: Saturday - Rest day.  Sunday - Trail run! 13.4 miles/2,091 ft elev gain/2:17.

The new spot for our two additional dining room chairs. // Planting my succulents! // And hoping I can keep these guys alive.

  2. I have been SUCH a sugar hound lately - I would have fallen face first into the donuts and Cadbury eggs. I avoided even being in the same room as that stuff while on my previous W30's and the fact that you were able to handle the stuff and not even lick your fingers is amazing to me. I so admire your dedication and willpower!

  3. You do have amazing willpower. I have been following along on your journey with this Whole30 thing, and it sounds intriguing. I am sure I would benefit from it, but I'm a little freaked out by the withdrawal effects from sugar. Did you get massive headaches? I get migraines and I am terrified!
