(This is Amanda's impression of a praying mantis. Spot on, sis!)
It's 9:30 p.m. It's Friday night in San Francisco. The weekend is just beginning. And where am I?? In bed, of course. I'm an old lady, I swear. But, to be fair to myself, we have been functioning on like less than 8 hours of sleep which this old woman needs nightly in order to string coherent sentences together and to be a functioning member of society. What can I say... I can't keep up with the 25 year olds anymore!!
I went to Amanda's last spin class today and it was amazing. She was amazing. It's so eye-opening to see her in 'her world.' I think we have these ideas about who our siblings are because we grew up with them... we knew them in their awkward years... their annoying years... their 'I'm too cool' years. And then they surprise you thru an action, or a profound thought, or their lifestyle... and you realize that they aren't your 'bratty little sister' anymore but a beautiful, successful, intelligent woman who has created a wonderful life around them.
Today I saw Amanda in her element and it was beautiful to see. She is one of the most driven people I have ever known and whatever she sets her mind to will become her reality. She is a strong person and I have no doubt that she will influence so many lives during her two years in Panama working with the Peace Corps. Go rock it, Amanda.
I'm lucky to have two sisters and a brother who are creating amazing lives for themselves, each in their own unique way. It is so cool to see your siblings 'come into their own' and shatter your perceptions of them. I love you three so much!!
Love,
Your bratty, bossy, oldest sister.
