This is mind-boggling. I just mapped the mileage from my apartment to Cedars and it's only 8.2 miles.
I can't believe that it sometimes takes me over an hour to drive EIGHT miles to work.... Santa Monica to Beverly Hills is 8 measly miles and traffic is often at a crawl on both surface streets and the freeway. Now there is the occasional evening (like Sundays, of course) where it may take only 20 minutes to drive to work but those days are few and far between.
... so here is my solution. I own three bikes, one of which I don't ride nearly enough. I google-mapped a route that would keep me off major Los Angeles streets (i.e. gridlock with road-raged drivers) and, as often as possible, I'd like to try biking to work. Working 12-hour night shifts and then biking home in the morning may prove to be a challenge but it is a challenge I am willing to accept.
Seriously, spending an hour in gridlock traffic wasting my $4.37 a gallon bio-diesel seems ludicrous.... especially for only 8 miles.
Ghandi said it best.
"Be the change you wish to see in the world."
And I intend to be that change. Wish me luck!
