Peonies.

Grama Barb & Alice. May 9th, 2012.

Earlier today I took a bouquet of peonies to a friend for her birthday and those flowers reminded me of a picture I took when Alice was just six weeks old. Since I take a lot of photos, I often like to look back through them to see what I was doing on this exact date in previous years.

It's hard to believe that, two years ago today, I had only been a mother for just a few short weeks. Seeing Alice so small and so helpless feels like a lifetime ago. Looking back at this photo, though, I can see my little girl in her newborn face and it reminds me that, no matter how old she gets, she will always be my baby.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this tragedy since I heard about it earlier in the week. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about what his parents are going through. And it's a reminder for me to never ever take a moment with my baby for granted.

  1. yep, I heard about that. It made me feel physically sick. that poor family.

I think you and I maybe can sympathize even more, because we only have one child.

Our whole world. I pray I never have to go through the hell she is going through right now :(

  3. I saw that too on instagram and hadn't actually read the whole post, but it's just heart breaking. I watched the way the whole community gathered around them and raised something like $50k and it was a really beautiful way to see social media utilized. It also made me reflect a lot on religion. I'm not particularly religious, and a deep connection with religion seems to bring so much peace to those shaken by such an unspeakable tragedy. I don't know where I'm really going with this but it does make you stop and think for certain... And be grateful.

Love that baby Alice face, and I always love checking in with your 'real' photos here in the blog (even if I don't always find the time to comment!). Happy Mother's Day :)

  4. Oh my, such a terrible tragedy. I can't tell you how many close calls we have had just crossing the busy streets in our city. It is my worst nightmare. My heart goes out to them.

  5. I love the pictures of the peonies and Alice. It is a tragedy when a child is injured or killed. You feel so helpless in those situations. It's so sad. xoxo
