Despite the fact that it is still officially winter, it has been downright summery in Salt Lake City this past week. I know not to get my hopes up, though, as Utah season changes are fickle and, in fact, there is rain in the forecast for today and snow in the forecast for this weekend. But I'm ignoring those weather reports!  And I'm focusing on the warmer seasons to come.

Much like my go-to six-minute make-up for everyday, my summertime routine must be quick and easy all while making me look polished and fresh-faced.  And, because I'm obsessed with anti-aging and protecting my skin, my routine must include sunscreen, no matter the time of the year.

So here it is!  My go-to routine for beautiful (and natural-looking!) summer skin.
  1. Twice a week at night, I exfoliate with the St. Ives Green Tea face wash.  I love it because it is totally natural and uses sand as the exfoliant rather than those micro-plastic beads that have turned up most recently in terrifying amounts in the Great Lakes and have been found inside the bellies of fish... which is an entirely different blog post altogether!!  On the days I don't exfoliate, I use the Yes to Cucumbers! facial towelettes to remove my make-up (the towelettes are biodegradable!).
  2. If my face is feeling dry in the morning, I smooth a few drops of Josie Maran Argan Oil on my face and neck.  After it has absorbed, I always, always, always put on sunscreen.  Lately I've loved the Alba Botanica SPF 45 as it doesn't leave my face a greasy mess and it works well under make-up.  And, despite having tried other beauty balms, I find myself coming back to my favorite: Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer. It's a little spendy at $43 but, let me assure you, it is worth every penny.
  3. I do love the NARS Orgasm Illuminator that I included in my six-minute make-up but if I want a little more color without the shimmer, I use the Tarte Cheek Stain in Blissful on the apples of my cheeks. And all of the Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balms are beautiful and seem to be universally flattering (lately I'm loving Petunia for a more natural look and Rose for a pop of color).
  4. And finally, eyes!  Laura Mercier's Metallic Eye Colour in Platinum is my favorite eye shadow as it is easy to apply and looks very natural.  A quick brush of my brows and a little penciling in with the Rimmel Eyebrow pencil and a few swipes of Physician's Formula Organic Wear black mascara and I'm ready to go!
Is it too early to think about hot weather and backyard barbecues?  What is your must-have summer beauty product?

  1. Loved this post. I'm toying with the idea of tossing 80% of my beauty products -- not as if I have a ton, but definitely enough worth pairing down and simplifying... especially considering I go to the same handful of products day after day.

I found that article about the beads in the Great Lakes so shocking when I first saw it. This is so naive, but all I could think was who on earth would suspect the exfoliating beads in their body wash or whatever product would be made of tiny particles of plastic rather than walnuts/rice granules/stone fruit pits/ any number of naturally occurring and abundant exfoliants. One more thing to add to the "what not to shop for" list.

I love(!!) those tinted Burt's Bees balms. Hibiscus has been my go-to lip product lately - I love it so much I haven't branched out to their other shades.
