Mom?

Usually we're a no-TV family in the mornings, preferring to listen to the news on the radio rather than to hear snippets of it through TV commercials.  This morning, though, after waking up to another day of rain in a week seemingly full of it, I turned on the TV in hopes it would somewhat distract Alice as I just didn't have the energy to start another day of entertaining her indoors.

My mood seems to be coinciding with the dreary weather this week as I've felt very introspective about life and our plans for the future.  What has been weighing most heavily on me, though, is how I am doing as a mom.  Having been a little impatient with Alice over the last few days, I'd been ruminating all morning over instances that I should've handled differently.  And I'd pretty much convinced myself that I am the only mom in the world who ever snaps at her kid.

Mommy guilt is just the worst.

And then this commercial came on and my ears pricked up as I heard the opening lines of children saying Mom? over and over.  As the commercial played on and tears sprung to my eyes, I started feeling a little better.  Yes, this commercial is for Famous Footwear.  And yes, it is cheesy.

But somehow its message made me feel a whole lot better about how I am doing as a mom.

  4. You rock as a mom and don't forget it. Every mom snaps at their kids and then feels SOOOO guilty about it! It's part of parenting. But I can tell you that little girls named Alice are extra hard to parent. ;)

Soon enough she'll be two and talking your ear off and telling you everything she wants and that will make a lot of things easier for you too. So for now hugs, and feel better knowing you are NOT alone.
