Weekend.

Swinging by the Charles.

I've been worrying about this particular milestone happening in Alice's little life for awhile now.  Weeks, really.  Last month, when Alice went for her one-year appointment, her pediatrician asked if she was still taking two naps a day and I happily replied, Oh yes! She certainly is!  He informed me that those two naps (which are known around here as Mommy's break time) would come to an end sometime before she turned 15 months.  And I sort of panicked.

On Saturday morning, as the sunlight streamed through our bedroom window, I reached for my phone to check the time and did a double-take.  It was 7:41AM and Alice was still asleep!  For the last few months, she has been waking between 6:15 and 6:30AM like clockwork.  And then, all of a sudden, she slept until 8:30AM.  Of course having slept that late, her regular 9:30AM nap was a no-go and I suddenly realized what was happening.

Alice was dropping her morning nap.

And she did the same thing on Sunday and she is doing it again this morning.  So far, it hasn't been as traumatic as I expected.  She is more chipper than usual after having slept 14 hours and surprisingly wasn't a cranky mess at 12:30PM when she went for her now once-daily nap.

I guess this whole dropping-a-nap thing is going to be a bigger deal for Mommy.

Weekend Workouts: Saturday - 30 mile bike ride all by myself. Sunday - 8 mile family bike ride. Alice sort of tolerated wearing a helmet this time.

  1. Well we are currently going through a rough patch with naps, so maybe I am not one to advise... but the single nap was actually surprisingly good. When he WAS napping in his crib (ahem) W would often go from 12-2 or even 3. It took some time to get there but it was a great chunk of time when we did, and then you can plan mornings and afternoons with more ease.

    Enjoy those late morning too!

  2. Don't sweat it. You'll get used to 1 nap in no time. For now enjoy sleeping in, or start getting up with your hubby and enjoy a HOT cup of coffee before all the life crazies start, or you know do the mom thing and throw a load of laundry in. ;)

  3. You know what? One nap is easier. You can plan your day better. Being home for two naps is really hard.

That being said, Nolan never really took two naps a day, maybe when he was under six months old, but not beyond that. So I guess I would be more upset if I had really been getting two breaks!

Currently he naps from 1130-1300 or so and it's so nice. We mostly play at home or outside in the yard until nap time, get up, eat lunch, and then go out. You will find her playmates, if they are similar in age, will follow this pattern, so it makes it easier on all of you for social stuff.
