Wasatch Front... for 4 hours.

I'm an hour and a half into a 4-hour layover in my favorite place, Salt Lake City, en route to see my favorite person who is currently in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  It has been over 3 weeks since I've seen Lee and this next five hours can't go fast enough.  I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve, willing away the hours till Christmas morning... except times that by like ten and you get an idea of how excited I am to see him.  Fortunately he and I both have jobs that allow us A LOT of time for travel. Can you imagine how difficult this long-distance relationship would have been if I had a 9 to 5, Monday thru Friday job?!  I shudder at the thought.  ;-)

Anyway, my week was pretty uneventful.  Worked A LOT, slept a little, cleaned, packed... oh I did manage to squeeze a beach day in on Saturday with my friend, Marija, who I hadn't seen in a few months (thanks, night shift!!).  And in the 3 hours I was out there, even with sunscreen on, I managed to get a little sunburned (see that ring on my bikini in the attached picture?!?  ya... nice tan line, eh?).

So this weekend Lee and I are headed to Banff Provincial Park for the World Championships of the 24-Hours of Adrenalin mountain bike race.  This will be Lee's 3rd time doing the 24-hour race as a solo rider and it is so cool that the 'regular' riders will be riding right along side the pros this year.  Lee and I did a 24-Hours of Adrenalin event back in April in California at Hurkey Creek; I did the 8-hour solo race and Lee did the 24-hour solo race.  It was so amazing and humbling to see the athleticism of the competitors in the 24-hour race.  I mean, after 8-hours on my mountain bike, I was glad to be finished, but the solo guys still had 16 hours to go, including riding thru the night with only the help of their handlebar-mounted lights.  According to Lee, the event this weekend pales in comparison to the event we did at Hurkey Creek.  There's a midnight movie along with a midnight corn roast; there are lit tiki torches all along the spectator portion of the course giving the race a bit of a party atmosphere, and Lee says the crowd's excitement at this race is palpable.  Can't wait.  I know Lee will kick ass in this race and I am so happy I'll be there to cheer him on!
